Building at 24 Tombazi Street

7653

It is a remarkable yet abandoned two-storey building with a raised ground floor and a semi-basement, characterized by neoclassical elements. Quite distinctive is the existence of two separate main entrances which consist of wooden panelled doors with a skylight on Tombazi Street. The surfaces of the faces are divided at floor level of the first floor by a horizontal stripe with cornice and dentils. The openings are equipped with wooden French shutters and are framed by casings, while the corresponding ones on the first floor are covered with cornices. Of great interest is the presence of blind openings along both sides. The balconies on Kantharou and Tombazi Streets (double balcony) rest on marble corbels and bear metal railings. The edge of the building is decorated with bands that retain traces of color (coarse red) with a cornice, while very few antefixes are preserved along the entire length of the two faces.
