The building, known as the “Clock” of Piraeus, was erected opposite the Agia Triada and in front of the Tinaneios Garden in order to function as the Piraeus Stock Exchange. The construction of the building began in 1869 according to the plans of the engineer Gerasimos Metaxas and was completed in 1873. In the same year, a clock was placed in the turret of the building, to which it owes its subsequent name. The building was developed into two floors, while it also had an attic. The main entrances were on the east and west sides. The morphology of the faces of the Clock was characterized by neoclassical decorative elements, according to the respective buildings of that time. On the ground floor, there was a large hall where transactions took place, while the offices were located on the first floor. However, the use of the building as a stock exchange was short-lived, that is a year. Later, the floor was rented to the Commercial Club of Piraeus, while the ground floor functioned as a coffee shop and patisserie, namely “Horologion”. The City Hall of Piraeus was installed in the building of the Stock Exchange in 1885. In 1968 the building was demolished, as it was damaged during World War II.
