Piraeus Association Building

7710

The Piraeus Association was founded on October 22, 1894 as a “Music – Gymnastics Association”, by a group of progressive Piraeus citizens. The Piraeus Association was recognized throughout Greece for its charitable activity and was ranked among the leading Institutions of the country. In 1921, the Municipality of Piraeus granted a plot of land at the junction of Karaiskou and Sotiros Dios Streets for the construction of this building. After an architectural competition, the proposal of the engineer I. Zolotas was chosen. The characteristic features of the building are the arched windows, while the rationalist spirit it exudes, is attributed to clear influences from the Fascist architecture of the time.
