Zanneio Boys’ Orphanage of Eleni N. Zanni

Zanneio Boys’ Orphanage is located on the building block on Kolokotroni, Evangelistrias & Notara Streets. This is the former School for Orphans and Poor Children. The Orphanage is later completed with the addition of the east wing of Eleni and Dim. Retsina. On the elevated ground floor lie the administrative services, the staff rooms, the shoemaker’s, the tailor shop, some classrooms, the large ceremony and exhibition Hall. Τhe director’s residence, dormitories, toilets and doctor’s office are located on the first floor, while the rest of the laboratories and other ancillary areas are located in the basement. On the exterior of the building the neoclassical stylistic elements are predominant, which morphologically refer to the last quarter of the 19th century: horizontal zones run through the faces, the openings are surrounded by casings and have French wooden shutters. The two wings are organized perfectly symmetry-wise with respect to the central part. The middle section of the facade, which protrudes slightly, is accentuated by the dense pilasters and the gable of the entrance. The building was recently transferred to the ownership of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation.
