Newspaper “New Piraeus”

7666

It is an abandoned two-story building at 17 Georgiou Skouze Street, where, on the façade lintel of one of the wooden openings on the ground floor, the name ” New Piraeus ” (a daily afternoon newspaper published in Piraeus in the 1960s) is preserved. The facade of the building is characterized by symmetry and is divided into three parts, where a small projection is visible on the central one. The openings on the ground floor are flanked by impost pilasters, which carry an entablature, in contrast to those on the first floor, which are simpler. There is a triple balcony supported by marble corbels, surrounded with a cast-iron balustrade decorated with floral motifs. There is also a horizontal zone with serrated bands that decorates the finial of the building, which bears a projecting eave.
