Building at 161 Karaiskou Street

7716

It is an impressive two-story building with a raised ground floor and a basement, which is located at 161 Karaiskou Street. It is a building with a characteristic tripartite structure of the facade into base, main body and crown, whose facade is divided into three separate sections, as the central one partially protrudes, emphasized by the pediment finial on the roof. Two external gates open to outermost parts of the building, with marble linings and a pediment finial. On the external surface of the face, on Karaiskou Street, the base is built according to the isodomic construction and is separated from the first floor by a molding. The surface of the raised ground floor is covered with decorative architrave beads. A cornice with molding separates the surface of the first floor, which has a different format and morphology. Pilasters with decorated imposts form the edges of the first floor. The three balconies of the first floor are also characteristic, where the two outermost ones bear curvilinear railings supported with simplified marble corbels. Of particular interest is the edge of the building and the intense decorative character of the crown with entablature and bands of meander motifs.
