Building on 34 2nd Merarchias Avenue

7678

It is a two-story building from the beginning of the 20th century with obvious morphological elements of the neoclassical style, as its faces are characterized by the tripartite organization of base, main body and crown. It has an elevated stone-built basement and is covered with a wooden tiled roof. On the surface of the facade, towards 2nd Merarchias Avenue, in the elevated basement, there are engraved stripes on the plaster coating imitating construction techniques according to the isodomic system. A projecting cornice with bands and molding at floor level separates the raised basement from the ground floor and respectively the ground floor from the first floor. On the main face there is a triple balcony, which rests on marble neoclassical corbels and is framed by metal railings. The openings are surrounded by frames and are equipped with wooden French shutters. The edge of the building is adorned with cornice bands and decorative dentils, while the roof eave is covered by a band of capitals. For a while it housed the German School of Piraeus.
