Old Hotel “PIRAEUS” (1872)

The three-storey building, which is developed in a C-shaped plan, occupies a large part of the building block, defined by the Miaouli coast, Bouboulinas Street and Agiou Spyridonos Street. This is the Old Hotel “PIRAEUS” or “Meletopoulos Hotel”, which was built around 1872. The face on Bouboulinas Street is characteristic, since the triple balcony with cast iron railings, resting on marble corbels, dominates the second floor. The semi-roofed space of the recess, created by the balcony, is crowned with a pediment finial, while the pilasters on either side end in a pediment. Of particular interest is the element of the two Doric columns that adorn the recess, which display ridges, referring to the entrance of an ancient Greek temple. A small balcony is located on the face towards Agiou Spyridonos Street, on the first and second floors. An entablature with horizontal stripes and a serrated band crowns the edge of the building on all sides.
